World Alzheimer’s Month: A Time to Act

September 1 2024

September marks World Alzheimer’s Month, an international campaign aimed at raising awareness and challenging the stigma surrounding Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. This year’s theme, “Time to Act on Dementia, Time to Act on Alzheimer’s,” emphasises the urgent need for action to improve understanding, reduce discrimination, and support those affected by these conditions.

Alzheimer’s is more than just memory loss; it’s a deeply human issue that affects millions of families globally. The campaign encourages everyone, from individuals to organisations, to participate in activities that highlight the importance of early diagnosis, better care, and more inclusive communities.

Throughout the month, people around the world are called to take meaningful actions—whether by participating in memory walks, sharing stories, or simply educating others about the realities of living with dementia. Every effort counts towards creating a more dementia-friendly society.

As we observe World Alzheimer’s Month, it’s a reminder that while the fight against Alzheimer’s is daunting, it’s a collective one. By acting now, we can shape a future where those living with dementia are supported, understood, and valued.
