Signs You Need to Sleep More

November 28 2018

Everybody knows the sheer importance of getting enough rejuvenating sleep — experts recommend 7 to 9 hours of it nightly. Despite of this, many of us are guilty of prioritising other things (responding to work e-mails, checking out social media, playing video games, etc.) over getting a good night’s sleep.

Not so sure whether you are getting plenty of shut-eye nightly or not? All you have to do is pay attention to your body. If you have been depriving it of much-needed sleep, then it’s for certain that it is currently giving you some hard-to-miss hints telling you to spend more time in dreamland.

Below are some of the telltale signs that you should be getting more sleep.

You Feel Cranky

It’s no secret that babies tend to act up each time they’re longing for a nap. Well, adults are also known to be difficult each time they fail to get plenty of sleep. Based on numerous scientific investigations, there is a strong link between sleep problems and mood issues. It’s for this reason why you may be irritable if you’re not getting enough Z’s.

You Fall Asleep Right Away

If you feel that falling asleep within 5 minutes after resting your head on a pillow is a good thing, better think again. Sleep experts say that it’s probably a sign that you are sleep deprived. However, there is also definitely a problem if after 20 to 30 minutes of lying in bed you are still wide awake.

You Look Like You Have a Hangover

So someone just asked you how the party was last night. The problem is there’s no party the night before. You know that something isn’t right if it seems like everybody thinks you look hung over. It doesn’t really come as a big surprise because consuming tons of booze can keep you from having a rejuvenating kind of sleep.

You are Hungry Constantly

One of the things that fitness experts always give as a piece of advice is to get plenty of sleep. That’s because being deprived of shut-eye can trigger something that can easily lead to weight gain, and that’s excessive hunger. If it’s apparent that you are constantly hungry like a bear, then you are probably not sleeping like a baby.

You Have an Infection Always

There are many different negative effects of sleep deprivation to the health, and one of them is a weakened immune system. With your body practically defenceless against invading bacteria and viruses, it’s not unlikely for you to suffer from infections frequently. It can be a vicious cycle as having an infection can keep you from getting quality sleep.

You Got Acne

It’s not just your health that’s on the line if you are not getting enough sleep at night, but also your appearance. You may be bugged by acne if you are depriving yourself of much-needed sleep. And if you’re already an acne sufferer, failure to get enough Z’s can definitely cause your skin condition to worsen.

If you believe that you are getting 7 to 9 hours of restorative sleep each night and yet you wake up feeling tired or lacking in energy in the morning, it’s definitely a good idea for you to see a doctor. That’s because there are certain medical conditions such as sleep apnea, hyperthyroidism and depression that can cause such.
